Adult Adoptees born in Missouri May Be Able to Access Their Original Birth Certificate

A person who was born in Missouri and then adopted now may have a way to access their original birth certificate and learn the name of their birth mother and also their biological father, if he is named on the birth certificate.  Beginning January 18, 2018, adult (18 and older) adoptees who were born in Missouri will be able to access their original birth certificate unless the biological parents both sign a “Contact Preference Form” choosing to remain confidential.  In addition, in the future, parents relinquishing a child for adoption may sign the same form to remain anonymous.
