First Annual Book Drive is a Great Success! Nearly 2000 Books Donated to Our Little Haven.

On May 2, 2002, The Carson Law Firm concluded it's first annual book drive for Our Little Haven by presenting nearly 2000 children's books to a board representative at the firm's offices in Clayton.

"Just look at all of these books!  It's amazing!" said Leigh Joy Carson, the Clayton family law attorney who organized the event.  "The community really turned out in full force to support Our Little Haven.  I'm so pleased with the results."

The original goal of collecting 100 books was far surpassed by the nearly 2000 that were donated during the month-long drive.

Carson rallied support from friends and colleagues in the legal community, and enlisted the help of Academy of the Visitation students Carolyn and Lauren Copeland.  The two girls raised awareness of the mission of Our Little Haven among the Visitation family, who also donated generously to the book drive.

"At Viz, we are committed to giving back to the community, and helping worthwhile causes and organizations in any way we can," explains Carolyn.  Lauren added,  "When Ms. Carson told us about the book drive, we felt it was something we could really contribute to."

Leigh Carson plans to continue the annual event, and urges supporters to keep Our Little Haven in mind throughout the year.  "There are very simple, inexpensive ways that we can help groups like Our Little Haven," said Carson.  "You'd be surprised at how the smallest things can make a big difference in the life of a child."

First Annual Carson Law Firm Book Drive for

Our Little Haven

The Carson Law Firm is organizing a book drive to benefit Our Little Haven with a goal of collecting 100 children’s books by May 1, 2002 .

The volunteers at Our Little Haven report that books represent one of the greatest educational needs that the children have -- books that the staff and volunteers can read to the children and books that the children can read to their adult caregivers.

Donated children’s books may be dropped off at The Carson Law Firm, suite 1003 , 222 S. Central, Clayton MO,

Our Little Haven provides residential care for children from birth to age five who have been abused or neglected and removed from their parents.  Our Little Haven further provides recruitment and training of foster parents as well as short-term care and support for families affected by HIV/AIDS.

Government authorities estimate that 50 or more babies are born to parents who are unable to provide safe and healthy homes each month in the St. Louis area.    Our Little Haven provides a warm nurturing home to these children until they can be placed in a permanent home.

The Carson Law Firm is asking for your help.  The goal is to collect 100 children’s books by May 1st to present to Our Little Haven.  A collection box at Suite 1003 , 222 S. Central in Clayton.  If your company or church is interested in establishing a collection point, The Carson Law Firm will provide you with a collection box and will pick up your donation prior to May 1st.  Please call (314) 721-2422 to arrange for the pick up of books or the drop off of a collection box.
